Comedic Contortions of Time and Space
Thursday 28th July, 2011, 7 – 8pm (BST) on Resonance 104.4FM (www.resonancefm.com), repeated on Tuesday 2nd August, 1pm, with podcasts to follow.
Comedy science fiction, in all it’s forms, is todays subject. From the early, satirical novels of the hugely influential Robert Sheckley, to later masters of wit and wisdom like Douglas Adams and his Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy series of books, radio shows and tv/film adaptations, we will discuss the intersection of sci-fi ideas with comedy scenario’s, and how they can enhance each other to produce a strange hybrid. Plus a focus on the classic film and TV versions of this mini-genre, like Woody Allen’s Sleeper, John Carpenter’s Dark Star, Men in Black, Futurama, Red Dwarf, Lost in Space, and recent films like Attack the Block, amongst many others.
Hosted by film-maker Ben Slotover, with journalist/broadcaster James DC
