Pulp Art Panopticon

An appreciative exploration of the Golden Age of pulp science fiction, fantasy and horror magazine art and illustration, looking at the classic illustrators like Virgil Finlay, Hannes Bok, Richard Powers, Bruce Pennington, Chriss Foss and others who regularly graced the covers of such legendary books like Weird Tales and Astounding Science Fiction. Why are these talented, revolutionary draughtsmen not considered ‘serious’ or ‘real’ artists, in comparison to their ‘fine art’ contemporaries?

Hosted by James DC, with guests Mike Lake and Mark Stafford.

It will be repeated on Tuesday 19th April at 1pm (GMT) with podcasts to come later

Clip: Visions of the Future, Part 2.

A very interesting show tonight, thank you James and guest speakers…I managed to catch most of it with only 4 interruptions! I missed the name of the female fashion artist from the 20’s who was mentioned later in the show…can you let me know please.
Love Virgil Finlays artwork, truly inspiring, he would have remained undiscovered by me, if not for your show, so thanks again. Keep up the good work.
